Volvo announces "electrification" of all its cars from 2019
Volvo announced on Wednesday (5) that all its vehicles launched from 2019 will have an electric motor, which may be the only propellant or be combined with a combustion system, as in hybrids.
“We are committed to being the first premium brand to have the entire portfolio with electrification. This is a commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, as well as improving air quality in cities, ”said Hakan Samuelson, Volvo's president.
The Swedish manufacturer, currently in the hands of Chinese Geely, will launch five 100% electric models between 2019 and 2021, three from Volvo and two from Polestar, its high performance car brand that will focus on models without a combustion engine.
In addition to the fully electric ones, the Volvo line will be complemented by hybrid models, with plug-in recharging or without. This means that in the near future, Volvo will no longer have purely combustion cars.
